Roper, a 7-year-old golden retriever, is more than a school mascot at Gasconade County R-1 Elementary School in Hermann, Mo. Roper and his owner, school counselor Megan Franke, work together. Roper is a certified therapy dog who lets the young children pet him and still feels comfortable sleeping among them every day. Both of them work with students who may or may not be well-behaved and it is their job and desire to provide unconditional support and acceptance regardless of a student's grades or social abilities.
