Born in Louisiana in 1944, Billy Ray Smith was raised by his mother and father, owners of an auto mechanics shop. From early on Billy Ray and his childhood buddies had a strong bond with one another. Now as older men, stories are told over beers and cigars after a longs days work. Billy Ray turned the auto mechanics shop into a salvage yard after the job of auto mechanics became computerized. It has turned to a living room for his brotherhood of friends.

After longs days tearing apart car engines and striping down the metal, Billy Ray doesn't like to leave his property, and he doesn't have to, the people come to him. An occasional visit to the Laundromat or a trip to make a few dollars is as often as it comes to see Billy Ray anywhere besides his salvage yard.
