New York Times Senior Editor for Visuals Margaret O'Connor began her professional career as an illustrator and art director in the field of advertising. In 1974 she moved to San Francisco where she began doing freelance work for the San Francisco examiner, and eventually joined their staff as an artist and designer. At the Examiner, she "learned to appreciate what photojournalism could be." In 1984 she took advantage of an Examiner leave of absence policy to go to New York to give living there a try. After freelancing for a while, she was offered a job as a designer at the Wall Street Journal. Three months later she took a job with the art department of the Times. In 1998, she began working as a picture editor with their photography department. She headed the photography teams that won the Pulitzer Prizes for breaking news and feature story in 2002, as well as the 2002 Pictures of the Year Award for best use of pictures. | Faculty Margaret O'ConnorDennis Dimick Melissa Farlow MaryAnne Golon Kim Komenich Bill Luster Geri Migielicz George Olson Randy Olson Lois Raimondo Staff Angel AndersonRandy Cox Jim Curley Seth Jayson David Rees Jeff Thompson Greg Tomlinson Becca Young Crew David Barreda |
