Randy Cox's father gave nine-year-old Cox the gift of photography in the form of a Brownie camera with no interchangeable lenses. Cox's professional career in newspapers dots the U.S. map. He began at the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Ms, and went on to The Coffeyville (KS) Journal as a photo editor, from there it was on to the Morning Call in Allenton, Pa., and the Hartford Courant in Ct. where he worked as assistant managing editor/photo & graphics for nine years. Cox has been senior editor/visuals at the Oregonian in Portland since 1997. His teaching career includes time as professional-in-residence at the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada/Reno. He's been lucky to serve as a faculty member for the Stan Kalish Picture Editing Workshop, the Electronic Photojournalism Workshop, and the Mountain Photo Workshop. He was editor for the annual "Best of Photojournalism" book for five years. Best of all, though, he is married to Joany Carlin, the editor of The Oregonian's Homes & Gardens magazine. They met a Missouri in 1974 and have traveled all over the country trying to get jobs at the same paper. | Faculty Margaret O'ConnorDennis Dimick Melissa Farlow MaryAnne Golon Kim Komenich Bill Luster Geri Migielicz George Olson Randy Olson Lois Raimondo Staff Angel AndersonRandy Cox Jim Curley Seth Jayson David Rees Jeff Thompson Greg Tomlinson Becca Young Crew David Barreda |
