Nicki Howe, 23, brings her newborn son, Jasiah, to visit with her grandfather Wayne Howe as he wakes up between naps. In addition to the medications he needs for his diabetes and heart condition, he also takes a high dosage of painkillers. Even so, he sleeps through as much of the day as possible, both to combat the pain and because his condition drains his energy. He has become practically confined to his bedroom, so his family will often spend time in his room.
