David Moore is one of the only people who enters Macon jail at 6 a.m. and is able to leave by nightfall. As Macon’s jailer, he’s the man with the most contact with the town’s prisoners. He feeds them. He prepares them for court hearings. He delivers the mail. And, most importantly, he keeps them in line.
His work doesn’t stop there. After leaving behind the thick iron doors, the click-clack of the jail keys and the men in the orange jumpsuits, he heads home for his other duties, as a husband, a father and a son.
David Moore pours tea for inmate Jody Hanson as part of his morning duties in the jail at the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.
