School children who have just finished learning about Lucy Wortham James circle around the jewel of Lucy’s legacy: Maramec Spring itself. Rain water that seeped into the ground miles away boils up out of an underground cave 17 feet below the water’s surface at a cold, constant 56 degrees. Maramec Spring is the fifth largest spring in Missouri, bringing an average of a hundred million gallons of water back to the surface, and into the Maramec River.
