John has completed school (the Amish finish school at 8th grade) and works full-time for his father Jacob, 52, in the family owned furniture store. Jacob considers himself on the liberal side of the Amish community and keeps a loose hold on his youngest son’s daily life…”you have to let your little birdies go and see if they can fly.”

Here, John takes practice shots with his bow and arrow into some haystacks. After working 8 hours days for his allowance John eagerly heads out as often as possible to hunt game.
