Fellow Homecoming Queen nominees Jillian Collins and Alyssa Tyler received red carnations, red representing one of the Marshall Owls school colors. Ron Cooley, Nikki's dad, commenting on her drive, and need to succeed, even at the expense as coming of sometimes as abrasive, remarked that "Both of us are competitive by nature…We butt heads, but I think that's healthy."
