There
is little time for idleness and relaxation in Bob Holt’s retirement.
At 71-years-old, the native Callawegian is a layman minister at both the
maximum security Fulton Reception Diagnostic Center and the Petro Truck
Stop in Kingdom city. He is active in community service organizations
and is a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. His family says he’s
busier now than when he worked as a machining teacher at Fulton High School.
As he ponders the meaning of retirement, he explains that it’s not that people become lazy, but that they begin to feel inadequate. His wife Dolores, at his side for 47 years now, adds, “He’s just willing to do it and that’s all it takes, and the Lord helps him.” Although the soft-spoken Holt doesn’t always know what to say to the hardened criminal or apathetic trucker he finds himself counseling, he never seems to lose his motivation. “It don’t bother me if they say no because they’ve been exposed to it. It’s maybe just a seed that we’re planting.” |
