view the story
Sister Mercedes Johnson, who was born and raised in Waconia, Minnesota, entered the convent at age 15. Since that time, she has lived all over the mid-western Unites States and in Rome before settling in Fulton, Missouri eleven years ago. She lives in a house, which acts as a convent, with two other Sisters- Sister Dolores Bozif and Sister Jeannette Wiltgen. All three of them are from the order of the Sisters of Christian Charity. Although the Sisters act as family unit in many ways, each sister lives an independent life that is spent being devoted to the Catholic Church and to the people and the community they serve.
Sister Dolores and Sister Jeannette are school teachers at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and School and Sister Mercedes, who is now 75 years old, takes care of things at the school, at the church, at the parish center and at the convent. She is truly a jack-of-all-trades. She acts as the cornerstone of the small Catholic community that exists in Fulton as she touches people of all ages through her work, through her faith and through her powerful and uplifting spirit. She is prepared to continue her mission of serving the Catholic Church and any community in which she is placed until her dying days.
