Dong
Uk Park, 29, is a Korean exchange student studying International Business
at Westminster College. He decided to change his first name to Don Park
“because my friends said that Dong is a bad word.” One facet
that illustrates his immersion into the American college community was
his decision to pledge the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity after his first
semester at the college in 1994. While he embraces both Korean and American cultures, he occasionally craves many things Asian including Korean cuisine. His constant visits with his cousin Chris and his fraternity brother J.B. provide him with a sense of familiarity. Despite the nostalgia, Don enjoys living in the United States “because here I feel more free.” |
