and son barbers Jerry and Richard Norton, work side by side, clipping
hair and sharing stories with friends and clients that stopped by South
Side Barber Shop in downtown Fulton. One of the most unpredictable places,
sometimes bustling sometimes quite, the Norton’s love their work.
“I always wanted to be a barber”, said Jerry. Working full-time
in a barber shop had been a dream of Jerry’s over forty years. He
had worked in a grocery store during the week to support his family, and
cutting hair was a weekend-only endeavor.
Three years ago, Jerry’s son Richard took over his position at South Side Barber Shop, and continued a lifestyle that Jerry always envisioned for himself. Richard was fortunate enough to not have to wait forty years to do what he wanted.
This week, both generations came together to run the barber shop, since Richard’s partner is on vacation. It was one of the few times that Richard and Jerry have worked together
