Randy
Cox is the senior editor/visuals at The Oregonian in Portland.
Cox received his BJ from the Missouri School of Journalism in 1975. After
his first job as a staff photographer at The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson,
MS he moved on to The Coffeyville (KS) Journal as photo editor for a total
newsroom staff of seven. After three years in Coffeyville he moved to
The Morning Call in Allentown, PA. In 1984, Cox moved on to The Hartford
Courant where he served as assistant managing editor/photo & graphics
for nine years. Cox also served as the professional-in-residence at the
Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada/Reno and worked
as a part-time designer at The Albuquerque Tribune. Cox has won a few
SND and NPPA awards in his 25-year newspaper career and has been a faculty
member for the Stan Kalish Picture Editing Workshop, the Electronic Photojournalism
Workshop, and the Mountain Photo Workshop many times. He served as editor
of the annual "Best of Photojournalism" book for five years.
Best of all, though, he is married to Joany Carlin, the editor of The
Oregonian's Homes & Gardens magazine. They met at Missouri back in
the mid-70s and have traveled all over the country trying to get jobs
at the same paper. That happened in Oregon thankfully. And, frankly, she's
much better at all of these things than Cox is anyway. |
