Story Summary

For third generation Ozark farmer Tara Smith, a single day can include shuttling kids around, managing a pumpkin patch, tending livestock, negotiating soccer schedules, preparing meals and completing housework. “Women built the Ozarks, and the men took all the credit,” Duncan Smith, her husband, said. Tara agrees. “Duncan has never done yard work, or house work. Forget a dish. But he works hard for us,” Tara said. Despite her jam-packed schedule, Tara always has time to provide guidance and sustenance for those she loves. She is the glue that holds her family together.
