Story Summary

The Platte River’s serpentine flow defines not only the northern boundaries of Platte City, but this small Missouri town’s identity. These waters meander gently over a swampy muddy bottom that makes this river great for catfishing but not major navigation. Aaron Post, Conservation Agent, patrols the river regularly, safeguarding its flora and fauna. Ed Straub and Sharon Wymore come down to the riverbanks seduced by the sunlight glimmer on these waters, while they wait to snag one or two of “those catfishes.” Though the waters are murky, they nurture a pristine beauty that just takes a keen eye and a quick breath to behold.
