  • Like her father, brother and boyfriend before her, 18-year-old Clinton High School senior Shanna Bock wants to join the National Guard after graduation.

    Of the 610 students who attend Clinton High, 67 are members of the JROTC program which as been around for 19 years. The stated goal of the JROTC program is to put students through school. For Shanna the program provides much more; it teaches discipline, strength and stability.

    She is a 2nd lieutenant and squad leader in the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. Next month she will travel to Kansas City to take her ASVAB test for the National Guard. The test is the next step is towards her dream of becoming a combat medic.

    The JROTC Raider Team drills daily for the One Rope Bridge event in which teams from various schools compete for best times.
