  • Alexis Homan, 20, chose to take the fall for her boyfriend Lannis McAlpin, 26, when the two were charged with felony drug possession. She says she in love and doesn’t want to be away from him.

According to Macon Police, the two were arrested with more than 35 grams of marijuana and some pain pills at their home on the south end of Macon Sept. 25, 2010. Police responded to a call that a man fitting Lannis’ description had stolen $500 from a home just four houses down from their trailer. When they arrived to question him, they say they found drugs and paraphernalia out in the open.

According to former Macon County Circuit Court Judge James Foley, drug abuse has been a longtime problem in the area, and drains the county jail budget. Current Judge Paul Parkinson has established a special drug court program to help ease the problem. Alexis hadn’t been in any serious trouble before that night. After 24 hours in the Randolph County Jail, she explained, “I just don’t want to be away from him. We’re going to go straight to the courthouse and get married as soon as we’re both out at the same time.”

Macon Police Officer Amber Wilhelm takes a mug shot of Alexis Homan, 20, while booking her for felony drug possession at the Macon Police Station Sept. 25, 2010. The arrests appeared in the Macon Chronicle Herald the next day, and the mug shots were posted on the local public access television channel. “The story gets around so quick -- I’m used to it. That’s just how it is in Macon,” she explained.
